Another publication by P.P.I.E.D., entitled “Nea Filadelfeia – Nea Chalkidona: Historical Pathways through the 20th Century”, is added to the Foundation’s publishing activity, always within the framework of research and study of Local History.
This publication is the history of the Municipality through the course of the 20th century. It is a text that combines the highlighting of new sources – such as the minutes of the Municipal Council – with a solid scholarly framework that allows us to follow the evolution of a refugee settlement over time, as a distinctive example of the wider transformation of Greek society. Specifically, it traces the chronological development of the Municipality of Nea Filadelfeia – Nea Chalkidona, focusing on the major breaks and transformations of the 20th century (the arrival and settlement of the refugees, the emergence of state and community infrastructure, the founding of the Municipality and its services, the changes in social and political history (e.g. the Occupation), the development of cultural and social activities, urban transformations and demographic developments).
